Governor Appreciates Jakarta Youth Choir Achievement

This is a testament to the hard work, collaboration of accomplished youths in Jakarta

Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan, appreciated the extraordinary achievements made by the Jakarta Youth Choir team amid the pandemic. He is committed to continuing to support the choir team's steps to keep growing.

The awards were handed over symbolically and virtually by the International Chorus Committee to the Conductor, Jakarta Youth Choir, Septo Adi Kristianto Simanjuntak on Sunday (12/20) evening Rome time.

"Surely we have difficulties in the competition, moreover the world is facing a pandemic. Yet it didn't dampen the team spirit to strive to be the best. Alhamdulillah we did it. This is a testament to the hard work, collaboration of accomplished youths in Jakarta. We will continue to support them to reach new heights thus they can be charming guests in other countries and great hosts in their own land," he expressed, Tuesday (12/22), as quoted by Jakarta PPID's press release.

Jakarta Youth and Sports Agency (Dispora) Head Achmad Firdaus, felt grateful and proud of the achievements. It is one of the enthusiasm and role models for young people in Jakarta to continue to be creative and achieve even in a pandemic situation.

"The COVID-19 pandemic has not discouraged our young people from working and making Jakarta and Indonesia proud in the international arena," he expressed.

Jakarta Youth Choir Founder and Coach who also served as Division Head of Youth Empowerment Ponirin Ariadi Limbong added, the event took place virtually on December 19-20.

"There are 40 participants from Italy, Russia, Poland, Hungary, Colombia, Cuba, Ukraine, Belarus, France, Belgium, Germany, Bulgaria, Slovakia and Indonesia," he explained.

He explained the Jakarta Youth Choir won the grand prix and four of the six categories contested. While for other categories managed to come out as runner up and 2nd runner up.

"Our gold medals come from four categories, namely Tradizional Music category, Choreographic Folklore, Polyphonic, Music Male Choir and Pop-Modern-World Fussion. This achievement was enhanced by winning the main category or Grand Prix Winner with a score of 29.5 out of a total of 30 points," he described.

He explained they had previously won dozens of prestigious achievements at the national and international levels.

While Jakarta Youth Choir Conductor Septo Adi Kristanto, conveyed to all 14 countries youth participants that this competition was a common struggle and victory in facing the pandemic around the world.

"This year, we should have been invited to participate in the World Choir Games in Belgium. But it was postponed next year, because of the pandemic," he stated.

Here are the achievements of the Jakarta Youth Choir at the 2020 Consorco Corale Internazionale Roma:

1. Category Winner of Tradizional Music

2. Category Winner of Choreographic Folklore

3. Category Winner of Polyphonic Music Male Choir

4. Category Winner of Pop-Modern-World Fussion

5. The 1st Runner Up of Polyphonic Music Youth Choir & Ensamble

6. The 2nd Runner Up of Polyphonic Music Mixed Choir & Ensamble

7. Grand Prix Winner of 2020 Consorco Corale Internazionale Roma

As for the information, Jakarta Youth Choir has been existed since 2015 and has won dozens of national and international awards.

This year (2020) is the third year for them to win the international champion. In 2019, they won six awards through The XXVII International Choir Festival and Competition of Sacred Music, 'Cantate Domino' in Lithuania. They also won four awards in a very prestigious championship, namely, The XIV International Warsaw Choir Festival on November 21, 2019 in Poland.

Then in 2018, they won an award at the Oriental Choir Competition International in Singapore; Joy Dancing Beijing Festival in China; as well as the Chorus Inside Advent International Choir Competition in Rome, Italy, which won the title in all categories.
